How to put a bigger HDD in your PS3

ps3 upgrade

If you're like me and bought your ps3 in the long long ago then you're also probably running out of space on your Harddrive. Time to put a new one in, and WOW, did i have a lot of trouble doing this, well, not with 'changing the HDD' but with trying to backup the data on my ps3. As you may/may not know, the ps3 only reads HDD's with fat32 format, and you can only format a 32gb partition of fat32 before it wants to change it to 'exfat' format, and i had 56gb of data and no way to back it up.
Noobs on forums are all like 'just format it to fat32' but hello deuchebag, you can't. window's won't allow it. I did a bunch of google searches like this: ps3 wont read my hdd exfat, not enough room on fat32 to backup my ps3 data, can ps3 read exfat with an update, programs that create fat32 partition windows 7, what hdd can i use to backup my ps3, ect ect
It took me 3 hours to sort it all out, so, i shall now share with you the fruits of my labour.
Firstly, backup your data, how to do it (^_^?) I used a 300gb external HD that i bought on ebay years ago, some cheap chinese no-brand kinda deal, i plugged it into my computer and did this.
1) click start button.
2) click contol panel.
3) click on administrative tools.
4) double click computer management.
5) click on disk management.
Once you do this, it will open up a window that displays all your harddrive partitions, you can use this to create new partitions on your external, it's alot easier to see it than tell you how to do it so check out this youtube vid by some smart dude:

Now, make the size of your partition alittle bigger than what you need, but not too big ok, or the next step might not work, don't worry about the fat32 part yet, just format the SIZE you want, then do this.
go to this web site: http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html?tag=mncol%3bpop&cdlPid=10982635
Click on the big green 'download now' button, save or run file and you'll get the program, run it and it works pretty much the same as the windows tool, except it will allow you to make big FAT32 partitions!!! awesome! So now format it and it will be ready to rock and roll \(^_^!)/
Everything else you need to know is in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNSytaL9hnI&feature=related
More questions?!? i had some, so, the type of HDD you should use is a SATA 2.5 5,400rpm HDD, they're easy to find on ebay or your local computer store. I picked up a Western Digital 500gb one for $82.50 with free postage (^_^!) don't get gipped paying $150, shop around! yes, alot of people might say 'get the 7,200rpm HDD' it's faster! and faster is better! isn't it? NO! not always, they do heat up more, and heat with electronics is bad, i'd rather not mess around with it, and apparently you don't really notice much of a speed difference.
sata
I hope this helped you!!!! (^_^!)
